Betting Tips Today: Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United

By on December 27, 2014

Manchester United will travel to White Hart Lane in London on Sunday afternoon as Louis van Gaal’s side look to bag another 3 points and fortify their top 3 position.

Tottenham Hotspur have started regaining some form since their horrible start to the season and it seems that coach Mauricio Pochettino has finally figured out his best starting XI. They are currently 7th in the Premier League table with 30 points from eighteen games and are level on points with 6th placed Arsenal. Furthermore, they are only 2 points behind 4th placed Southampton and a point behind 5th placed West Ham United. The way this season is unfolding, it seems that Tottenham’s main objective of the season would be to qualify for Europe again. The fight for a top 4 finish is heating up and so far Tottenham are the side that has been lagging behind the others. If they can get a win in this game and Southampton, Arsenal and West Ham drop points then they could find themsleves in the top 4 by the end of the matchday. They face a Manchester United side that has also regained form in recent weeks and seem to be a totally different side from the one that started the season. But they can still be defeated as teams have shown in recent weeks. Pochettino’s main focus will be to avoid a defeat here, and then focus on winning the game if his team can perform at a superior level.

Tottenham Hotspur have have been in brilliant form recently having won four of their last five games while losing just one. That loss came against Besiktas in the Champion’s League and Tottenham have been on a four game run without a loss ever since. Their last league game was the boxing day fixture against Leicester City where they came out 2-1 winners. Spurs have won two of the last four (W2 D2 L0) games against Manchester United. Tottenham have won their last 3 matches in the Premier League.

Manchester United have also made some progress in recent weeks and have drastically improved their league position. Once they were below 7th in the league but recent good form has seen them move to 3rd in the table with 35 points from eighteen games, which is something that none of the fans would have expected at the start of the season. they are currently 7 points behind 2nd placed Manchester City and 3 points ahead of 4th placed Southampton. With six of the top seven teams facing each other on this matchday, this will be a decent opportunity for Manchester United to extend their lead and strengthen their 3rd place position. At present, they are not clear challengers for the title as City and Chelsea have a massive lead. They might have an outside chance of challenging for the title if events in the upcoming weeks are favorable. However, their main focus will be to guarantee automatic qualification to the Champion’s League which would help them attract bigger names in the summer. This game is very hard to call considering both sides have regained lost form in recent weeks and the manager’s are settling down with their best starting XI. This possibly has the makings of a draw.

Manchester United have been in excellent form in recent weeks themselves having won four of their last five games in recent weeks while drawing one. Their last league game was the 3-1 win at home against Newcastle United. Manchester United have won 7 of their last 8 matches in the Premier League and are undefeated in their last 13 away matches against Tottenham in all competitions. Man Utd have scored at least 2 goals in 6 of their last 7 matches in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur have no real injury worries ahead of this game and coach Mauricio Pochettino has a fully fit squad at his disposal. This gives him a chance to showcase his best XI but it’s clear that the manager has found out the winning combination and will probably go with the same players.

Manchester United on the other hand do have some injury concerns. Daley Blind, Jesse Lingard, Tom Thorpe, Marouane Fellaini, Marcos Rojo and Adnan Januzaj will all miss out as they are suffering from injuries. Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria are doubtful for this game and will be assessed closer to kick off.
