Buffon shocked at Juventus draw

Juventus captain and long serving goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon has expressed his disappointment in the way the Old Lady fared in the recent Serie A game against Cesena. Roma’s inability to secure a victory over Parma last weekend handed the Italian League leaders the opportunity to extend their lead to nine points but even though Arturo Vidal got the opportunity to nail the match for the Turin based club after they were awarded a penalty in the closing stages of the match, the Chilean could only guide his kick away from the goal post. Cesena were then able to secure a 2-2 draw.

However, the captain took responsibility for any act of complacency which might have emanated from the dressing room and has urged his colleagues not to lose their focus at this stage in the league. He believes that if the can replicate their performance over the last few weeks, it will send a clear signal not only in Italy but even to their opponents in the UEFA Champions League.

While speaking to Sky Sport Italia, the stopper noted that although they were hoping for a better result from the match especially since Roma had earlier slipped to a draw, the Old Lady put up a very disturbing performance particularly in the first 20 minutes of the match. He believes that although their opponents gave a good account of themselves, Juventus ought to be able to secure the maximum three points considering the late penalty they got and squandered later on.

On his own part, Buffon as captain took responsibility of failing to ensure that he kept his colleagues focused both in the locker room and on the pitch. He also called on the younger members of the team to understand that no one is going to hand them the league except the entire team struggled for it.
