I will not alter my play style – Gareth Bale

Despite being the subject of acute media bashing due to his apparent selfishness on the ball, Real Madrid’s prolific winger, Gareth Bale remains focused and is not considering any change in his style of play. In one of the club’s La Liga ties last month, the Welsh forward had the chance to feed teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo who was already on a goal bound move but ultimately decided to aim at goal which he eventually missed.

The home crowd went wild with disbelief when they saw such selfishness from one of their own stars and even though they were already in a comfortable lead against Espanyol, only few fans could relate to such actions and the majority of the fans jeered and booed Bale. In a sharp contrast, both manager, Carlo Ancelloti and Ronaldo who would have possibly benefitted if Bale had not been so selfish have jumped to the defence of the former Tottenham man claiming that they didn’t see any misdeed in his actions.

Bale himself is not in the least worried amidst all the reactions and in fact made it clear that he didn’t try to work on his play style ahead of the recent Champions League 2-0 win over German opposition, Schalke 04.

While speaking with Sky Sports, the Welshman revealed that he hasn’t tried to adapt his methods to some of what would suit the fans who showed disgust in his actions against Espanyol. He further maintained that in some games, if he finds himself in a position where he believes that he has a chance at scoring, he will take it but noted that against Schalke at the Veltins Arena, he tried to pass the ball to some of his teammates whenever he felt that they were better positioned than he is.

The European Champions will host Schakle at the Spanish capital with a commanding 2-0 advantage after Ronaldo and Marcelo both scored one goal apiece in the first leg.
