Liverpool need to win the FA Cup – Carragher

By on February 14, 2015

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has stated that it would be disheartening if the Merseyside club fail to win the FA Cup this season. The footballer turned pundit believes that with the absence of Chelsea and Manchester City in the competition, the Reds are expected to have a jolly ride to the final. His opinion on Liverpool’s chances is quite surprising seeing as holders, Arsenal and arch-rivals, Manchester United are still charging towards the same course.
Between Liverpool and a chance to progress to the next stage in the world’s oldest soccer competition are Crystal Palace and Brendan Rodgers will hope that his side can avoid the daunting possibility of a repetition of the 3-3 draw played out by both teams last May. Liverpool’s lack of win in that match was the deciding factor in the race for last season’s Premier League eventually won by Manchester City.
Also in November of the same year, Crystal Palace proved the better team against Liverpool in this season’s first leg in the Premier League. Liverpool couldn’t help but slip to a 3-1 defeat in South London. Having considered all these, Carragher understands that his beloved team cannot afford to suffer any more defeat against Palace as it will not only shatter their new found resolve, but end any chance that they might have of winning silverware this year.
In his Daily Mail Column this week, the former Liverpool defender, admits that Liverpool have always found a formidable adversary in Palace especially whenever Liverpool make the trip to Selhurst Park. On a brighter side, Carragher noted that it was after the defeat against Alan Pardew’s men that the Merseyside team started to pick up the momentum which is now expected to row in their favour this weekend. However tough an opponent that Palace might prove, Carragher will love to see Liverpool get past them in a bid to replicate their 1990 achievements at Wembley.
