Lyon record third consecutive draw

On Sunday, Loreint garnered all their efforts when they faced Ligue one leaders Lyon in the French League and as it is usual with hard work, it paid off with the little league team scampering off with a 1-1 draw. Jordan Ayew had put the hosts in front in the opening stages of the second half but constant pressure from Lyon resulted in an equalizer when Cameroon striker, Clinto N’Jie’s shot was deflected into the net with barely 13 minutes left on the clock.

This result has placed Lyon 2 points ahead of both Marseille and champions, Paris Saint-Germain after 25 matches played. Coming into the fixture, Lyon has recorded two consecutive draws against Monaco and PSG and were expecting to end such run when they faced Liorent at Stade du Moustoir. However, Lorient who were just two points ahead of the relegation zone met Hubert Fournier’s men with full force and in fact shocked the league leaders more when Ayew struck for the hosts in the 50th minute. The Ghanaian came in as a substitute for Rafidine Abdullah by the start of the second half and within 5 minutes of action connected a Benjamin Jeannot cross to register the match’s first goal.

The league leaders weren’t going to end their draw steak with a loss and went on a rampage of their own. Their efforts were rewarded in the 77th minute when N’Jie was in position to fire the ball past Benjamin Lecomte who was in goal for Liorent. The major bad news for Lyon is that the pressure is piling up in the Ligue 1 with Bordeaux securing a victory to keep them in touch with the top four. Fournier will also be wary of any other slip as it might just see his team surrender their lead spot in the league.
