Thibaut Courtois saved Chelsea – Luke Shaw

By on October 31, 2014

Manchester United’s teenage sensation, Luke Shaw has stated that were it not for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, the Red Devils would have sent the league leaders to the sewers in the first period of their clash last weekend. The teenager pointed to the double saves that Courtois made particularly from Robin van Persie in both halves. He also maintained that the Belgian safe hand was also on hand to deny Manchester United’s record transfer Angel Di Maria a couple of times.

It was Chelsea who however got in the lead when Robin van Persie guided home a Didier Drogba header in the second half before, Robin van Persie drew the hosts back on level terms with seconds to go. Considering the frail level of the Red Devils this season, that draw is widely regarded as a wonderful result in many quarters and more so, if you consider the fate Arsenal met when they clashed with José Mourinho’s men earlier this season, then you’d realise how golden the point Louis van Gaal’s men clinched is.

The game actually brought the best out of a hitherto uninspiring Manchester United and now that they have begun to produce admirable performances, one can’t but hope that the best is yet to come. Louis van Gaal will be facing city rivals Manchester City this weekend and he will be looking to improve on their performance against Chelsea to secure the maximum 3 points available at the Manchester derby.

Tough as it may seem, the manager has welcomed long serving midfielder Michael Carrick back into the fold, and team captain Wayne Rooney is now available after serving his 3-match ban. Falcao is also said to be fit enough to start the game and as such, Louis van Gaal probably for the first time since taking charge at Manchester United will have this many options.

Wayne Rooney especially is expected to repay the fans with a wonderful performance against the Champions after picking up a needless red card that ensured that he missed 3 consecutive games during which his services were sorely missed.

Hopefully, with the level of fire power that the club will parade in the derby, Joe Hart might not be as lucky as this colleague at Chelsea.
